FATF Team to Visit Pakistan Amid Terror Funding and Hawala Concerns
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international watchdog, is sending a team to Pakistan.
They're checking if Pakistan is helping to stop money used for terrorism and illegal activities.
This visit comes after complaints about money moving through Pakistan's financial system, including suggestions of help from some intelligence agencies.
The FATF team will look at how Pakistan is doing what it promised to do in 2022 to stop illegal money flows.
If Pakistan doesn't meet the standards, it could be put on a list that can hurt its economy.
Pakistan has been on this list three times before.
FATF and APG are expected to visit Pakistan in August to review compliance with action points.
The visit follows complaints about alleged terror financing and grey market activity.
Concerns exist regarding Pakistan's role as a hub for hawala-hundi operations.
Reports claim Pakistani intelligence agencies are involved in hawala operations.
The outcome of the review will determine if Pakistan risks being grey-listed again by FATF.
