Untreated Sewage Continues to Pollute Yamuna River Daily
Every day, a large amount of untreated sewage is still flowing into the Yamuna River.
The government is trying to clean up the water by using sewage treatment plants (STPs), but some aren't working correctly.
The government checks the river's water quality regularly and inspects factories to make sure they aren't polluting.
Money has been given to help clean up the river, and some projects are finished.
Daily, 641 million liters of untreated sewage enter the Yamuna River from Delhi.
Delhi has 37 sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 3,474 MLD.
14 STPs are not compliant with Delhi Pollution Control Committee standards.
CPCB monitors Yamuna water quality monthly at key locations since January 2025.
In 2024, 49 out of 158 operational industries violated discharge regulations.
