Landfilling of Vazhathuruthi Wetland Continues to Spark Tension
Imagine a beautiful wetland area near a school.
Some people are trying to fill it with trash, which is against the law.
The local residents and a conservation group are working hard to stop them.
They caught workers removing concrete and dumping it in the wetland.
The government officials were called in and took away the earthmover that was being used.
The residents are also concerned because an earthmover that was confiscated before has disappeared.
They are now asking the authorities to solve these problems and protect the wetland.
Workers attempted to landfill the Kottooli wetlands adjacent to a school compound.
The Vazhathuruthi Residents’ Association and Samithi stopped the landfilling.
The Revenue Department confiscated the earthmover used in the landfilling.
The Village Officer confirmed that the landfilling violated the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2008.
An earthmover confiscated in November 2024 disappeared from a local compound.
