Indian stock markets recover from lows, end week down 2%

Indian share prices had a very unsettled day on Friday.

They dropped sharply at first but recovered much of that loss before markets closed.

The Sensex and Nifty still finished slightly lower for the day.

Over the whole week, both indexes fell about 2%.

Some private-bank shares rose, while metal and real-estate shares dropped more strongly.

Higher oil prices and worries about interest rates pressured the market.

Good news from some technology shares and European markets helped prices recover.

The rupee also weakened against the dollar for the fourth day in a row.

Experts said investors are still buying some shares when prices become cheaper, but market volatility may continue.
