iOS 26.1 Update Enables Background Photo Uploads for Apps
Imagine you're backing up photos or sharing videos from your iPhone.
With the new iOS 26.1 update, apps can upload photos even if you switch to a different app or lock your screen.
This means you don't have to wait for uploads to finish before doing other things.
This update uses a special feature called Background Resource Upload.
The update manages the uploads in the background and makes sure they work even if your internet isn't great.
Apps will need to be updated to use this new feature.
No existing privacy settings are altered with this new feature.
Developers will also find it easier to add background upload features to their apps.
iOS 26.1 allows third-party apps to upload photos in the background.
The new feature is called Background Resource Upload, located in PhotoKit.
Users no longer need to keep apps open or babysit upload progress.
Privacy settings remain unchanged; apps still need user permission.
Developers benefit from simplified code and better battery management.
