Germany's Merz Advocates Stronger NATO, US Cooperation
Germany's leader, Friedrich Merz, gave a speech in the German parliament.
He said that Europe should have a stronger NATO but also keep working with the United States.
He also mentioned that Europe won't be scared by threats of tariffs anymore.
This means he wants Europe to be stronger and not afraid of other countries trying to put taxes on their goods.
At the same time, the US and Denmark are talking about a deal for the US to have a bigger presence in Greenland, which is a part of Denmark.
The US wants to be more involved in Greenland for security reasons, but Denmark and Greenland want to keep control over their land.
Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz called for a stronger NATO within Europe and emphasized the importance of maintaining cooperation with the United States.
Merz stated that Europe will no longer be intimidated by tariff threats, following US President Donald Trump's backing away from using tariffs to seize Greenland.
The speech was delivered to the German parliament on January 29, underscoring Europe's emboldened stance on projecting strength and values.
US, Danish, and Greenlandic officials met to discuss a new framework deal over Greenland, aiming to satisfy President Trump's desire for a greater American presence without ceding sovereignty.
The negotiations follow Trump's announcement of a 'framework of a future deal,' which includes pledges to refrain from imposing tariffs on European nations opposing his effort to take possession of Greenland.
