Apple’s iPhone Duo Foldable Draws Camera Questions Near ₹3 Lakh
Apple has made its first foldable iPhone, called the iPhone Duo.
It opens into a larger 7.6-inch screen and has a 5.4-inch outer screen.
In India, it starts at ₹2,99,900.
Its main camera has specifications that look very similar to the cheaper iPhone 17e.
Both phones use a 48MP main camera and offer a 2x optical-quality zoom using that camera.
The more expensive iPhone 18 Pro Max has more advanced camera hardware, including a dedicated telephoto camera.
Apple has not said whether the two similar cameras use the exact same sensor.
The foldable phone may have simpler cameras because Apple needed space for its hinge, screens, batteries and thin design.
This means buyers may mainly be paying for the foldable design rather than Apple’s best camera system.
The iPhone Duo starts at ₹2,99,900 in India for 256GB of storage.
Its 48MP Fusion Main camera has a 26mm focal length, f/1.6 aperture, optical stabilization and Hybrid Focus Pixels.
The iPhone Duo and iPhone 17e both use the main camera for a 2x optical-quality zoom mode.
Unlike the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the Duo lacks a dedicated telephoto camera and variable aperture.
Apple has not confirmed that the Duo uses the exact same physical sensor as the iPhone 17e.
- Who

- What
- Apple’s first foldable iPhone has camera specifications similar to the much cheaper iPhone 17e, raising questions about its value.
- When

- Where
- India, where the iPhone Duo starts at ₹2,99,900.
- Why
- The similarities are notable because the Duo is a premium foldable phone, while its design requirements may have led Apple to prioritize thinness, durability, displays, the hinge and battery arrangement over advanced camera hardware.
Camera concerns
Foldable trade-offs
Value at the premium price
Camera concerns
The Duo costs nearly ₹3 lakh while its published main-camera specifications closely resemble those of the much cheaper iPhone 17e.
Foldable trade-offs
The Duo’s price reflects its foldable design, engineering, two displays, hinge, batteries, titanium chassis and foldable-specific features rather than only its camera hardware.
Comparison with Apple’s camera flagship
Camera concerns
The Duo lacks the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s variable aperture, 100% Focus Pixels, dedicated telephoto camera and longer-range optical zoom capabilities.
Foldable trade-offs
Apple appears to position the iPhone 18 Pro Max as its photography flagship, while the Duo is designed around a different priority: a thin, durable foldable form factor.
Whether the sensors are identical
Camera concerns
The matching published specifications make it reasonable to question whether the Duo uses the iPhone 17e’s camera hardware.
Foldable trade-offs
Apple has not confirmed that the physical sensors are the same, and different sensor generations, coatings, implementations or image-processing systems could produce similar specifications.
