Satheesan Says Kerala’s LDF Faces Turmoil Amid Left Rift

Satheesan Says Kerala’s LDF Faces Turmoil Amid Left Rift

Kerala’s opposition Left Democratic Front is having disagreements between its two main parties, the CPM and CPI.

Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan said the alliance is in turmoil.

He said some people inside the CPM are unhappy with its leadership.

The disagreement grew over who should become Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly.

Leaders from both parties have criticized each other publicly.

Satheesan also accused student and youth groups linked to the CPM of using protests as distractions.

He said the previous Left government did not do enough to fight drug networks, while the UDF is taking enforcement action.

He added that no formal move has been made to bring the CPI into the UDF.
