Farmer's Black Onion Success Story
Ram Pal Saini is a farmer from Kurukshetra who became very successful by growing black onion seeds.
He started with just half an acre and now uses seven acres to grow these special onions.
Black onions are in high demand because they have a dark purple color, shine well, and last a long time.
Saini earns a lot of money from selling these seeds, much more than he would from traditional crops like wheat and paddy.
He also grows nurseries and table onions, which add to his income.
His hard work and smart farming methods have made him a multi-millionaire, and he plans to expand his business further.
Ram Pal Saini, a postgraduate in Commerce, started independent farming in 2010 after working in education and government roles.
He identified a market demand for high-quality black onion seeds and began cultivating them on half an acre, expanding to seven acres by 2012.
Saini produces around 17–18 quintals of black onion seeds annually, with market prices ranging between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000 per kg.
His farming model generates profits of around Rs 6 lakh per acre after expenses, significantly higher than traditional crops.
Saini also cultivates onion nurseries and table onions, adding to his income and maintaining a year-round cropping cycle.
