NGT Orders Hamirpur to Act on Legacy Waste Disposal
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) is making sure Hamirpur city in India cleans up its old trash problem.
The city's officials were supposed to get rid of the old trash by June, but they didn't.
Now, there's a lot of old trash still sitting around.
The NGT told the city to make a plan to clean it up and deal with the new trash that comes in every day.
Right now, they make more trash each day than they can handle.
The city has to tell the NGT how they will fix this and promise to get rid of the trash within six months.
The NGT will check on their progress in October.
NGT directs MC Hamirpur to submit a plan for clearing legacy waste.
The MC Hamirpur was previously ordered to clear legacy waste by June 30, but failed.
Around 10,000 MT of legacy waste remains at the site.
Daily solid waste generation is 17 MT, with only 7.2 MT treatment capacity.
The Commissioner must file an undertaking to clear the waste within six months.
