Bombay HC Orders Nariman Point Society to Grant Sippy Full Membership

The Bombay High Court has told a housing society in Mumbai to give full membership to filmmaker Ramesh Sippy.

The society had only given him a small membership earlier.

The court said the society must follow the law and give Sippy full membership because he is the legal heir of his late mother, who was a member.

The society had argued that Sippy owns a basement, not a flat, and that he uses it as an office.

But the court said these are separate issues and do not stop Sippy from getting membership.

The property was bought by Sippy's father in 1966, and his mother became a member after his father's death.

She then nominated Sippy before she died in 2007.

The court said the society cannot refuse membership now after treating the basement as eligible for membership for over 50 years.
