Jhiram Ghati Maoist Ambush Leaders’ Death Sentences After 13-Year Trial

In 2013, Maoist fighters attacked a convoy carrying Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh.

They first used a landmine to block the road.

Then they fired guns and grenades for about an hour.

Twenty-nine people died, including several important Congress leaders.

Thirty-five others were injured.

Investigators said the attackers practiced and carefully planned the ambush.

The case went through a trial that lasted nearly 13 years.

A court convicted 10 people and gave them death sentences, but they can appeal before any sentence is carried out.
