Record Number of US Citizens Applying for UK Residency
More Americans are applying for British citizenship and the right to live and work in the UK.
In the past year, a record number of people have applied, with over 1,900 applying between January and March.
Many of these people are eligible because they have family links to the UK.
The British government is trying to reduce immigration, with new policies including language requirements.
However, the increase may not be tied to political conditions in the US.
A record number of Americans applied for British citizenship in the past 12 months.
6,618 US citizens applied to become British nationals or for indefinite work in the UK.
Over 1,900 applications were made between January and March, the highest quarterly number on record.
Most settlement applications in the previous year were from people with family links.
