Telangana Experiences Early Winter as Temperatures Drop Below 20°C
Winter is starting early in Telangana!
On Friday morning, the average temperature across the state was cooler than usual, dipping to 18.8°C.
Many places got even colder, with 26 out of 33 districts dropping below 20°C.
The coldest spot was in the northern district of Adilabad, where the temperature reached a chilly 14.8°C.
Other northern towns also felt the cool air, with temperatures in the mid-to-high teens.
Even the big city, Hyderabad, got cooler, though it stayed a bit warmer than the countryside because city buildings hold onto heat.
This cooling is normal for this time of year after the rainy season ends.
Northern areas tend to get colder faster because the wind blows more strongly there at night, making the heat disappear more quickly.
The temperatures are a bit warmer than normal, but still show the season is changing to cooler weather.
Telangana recorded a state average minimum temperature of 18.8°C on Friday morning, signaling an early winter onset.
26 out of 33 districts in Telangana registered minimum temperatures below 20°C.
The lowest minimum temperature was 14.8°C recorded in Bela, Adilabad district.
Northern districts experienced the coldest conditions, while Hyderabad remained comparatively warmer due to urban heat retention.
The sub-20°C temperatures align with the typical early November cooling pattern following the monsoon season.
- Who
- Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) and India Meteorological Department (IMD)
- What
- Telangana experienced a significant drop in minimum temperatures, with the state average falling to 18.8°C and 26 districts recording lows below 20°C, marking an early onset of winter-like conditions.
- When
- Friday morning (recorded temperatures), mid-November (typical clearer cooling phase)
- Where
- Across Telangana, with specific mentions of Bela (Adilabad), Sangareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Vikarabad, Kamareddy, Medak, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Siddipet, Hanumakonda, Warangal, Khammam, Mulugu, Jogulamba Gadwal, and Wanaparthy districts. Hyderabad also recorded temperatures.
- Why
- Easing post-monsoon humidity and seasonal shift, with colder temperatures attributed to open terrain and night-time winds in northern areas, and heat retention in urban localities like Hyderabad.
Northern Districts
Hyderabad (Urban)
Minimum Temperatures
Northern Districts
Recorded the coldest temperatures, with Bela in Adilabad district at 14.8°C, and several other northern districts in the mid-to-high 16s and low 17s.
Hyderabad (Urban)
Recorded a comparatively warmer minimum temperature of 19°C, with the lowest reading from West Maredpally.
Reason for Temperature
Northern Districts
Open terrain and stronger night-time winds accelerate heat loss, contributing to colder temperatures.
Hyderabad (Urban)
Urban localities tend to retain more surface heat, slowing the nighttime temperature fall.
