Bihar Teacher Domicile Rule Bars Married Women’s Husband Addresses
Bihar is hiring teachers for thousands of school jobs.
The state has rules that give most of these jobs to people who qualify as Bihar residents.
A new notice says married women who want reservation benefits must use documents showing their parents’ address, not their husband’s address.
This could mean women who moved to Bihar after marrying someone there cannot use those benefits.
Officials say the clarification is meant to make sure the domicile rules are followed.
People from outside Bihar can still compete for open seats, but they do not get Bihar’s reservation benefits.
The exam’s date had not yet been announced.
The Bihar Public Service Commission says married women seeking reservation benefits must submit caste, residence and non-creamy-layer certificates using their parents’ address, not their husband’s.
The rule was announced as applications opened for 32,388 posts in the fourth Teachers Recruitment Examination, known as TRE-4.
Bihar’s domicile rules reserve 85% of teacher recruitment posts for state residents, while candidates from outside Bihar compete for 15% open seats.
Officials say about 50,000 out-of-state teachers were appointed across the first three recruitment examinations since 2023.
The examination schedule for TRE-4 had not been announced; non-domicile candidates do not receive state reservation benefits and face the general qualifying threshold for teacher eligibility tests.
