2015 Dadri Lynching Case: Accused Seek Transfer
In 2015, a man named Mohammad Akhlaq was killed by a mob in a village called Bisada.
The mob was angry because they thought Akhlaq had killed a cow and stored its meat.
Now, the people accused of killing Akhlaq want the case to be moved to a different court.
They are unhappy because the court did not agree to drop the charges against them.
The court has decided to wait for 15 days before the next hearing.
Akhlaq's family was in court, but they couldn't give their statement.
The lawyers for the accused say that the case is becoming political, but the lawyer for Akhlaq's family says it's not a private matter and the state is acting like it's on the side of the accused.
Accused in the 2015 Dadri lynching case seek transfer of the case to another court.
The fast track court in Surajpur, Greater Noida, adjourned the hearing for 15 days until January 23.
The UP government had previously applied to withdraw prosecution in the case, but the court rejected this plea.
The court cited a Supreme Court judgment to say it cannot hear the case while a transfer application is pending.
Akhlaq's family was present in court but their statement could not be recorded.
