Punjab High Court Seeks Chief Secretary's Response Over DA Appeal Statement

Punjab High Court Seeks Chief Secretary's Response Over DA Appeal Statement

The Punjab and Haryana High Court is hearing a case about money owed to state workers and pensioners.

It had ordered Punjab to pay pending dearness allowance and related relief.

Punjab challenged that order in the Supreme Court.

A state representative said problems with the appeal had been fixed, but a registry report said they had not.

The High Court issued Chief Secretary K A P Sinha a notice asking him to explain why he should not face criminal contempt proceedings.

The court also asked him to attend the next hearing on Friday.

Punjab has argued that paying about Rs 14,191 crore in the short time set by the order was constitutionally impossible.

The High Court is also considering whether the state has complied with its earlier payment order.
