Onion Arrivals at Kurnool Market Fall as Prices Surge

The Kurnool market has received far fewer onions this year than it did last year.

The article says reduced farming and production, linked to El Niño conditions, are contributing to the shortage.

Onion arrivals were below 40,000 quintals in the reported period, compared with about 1.46 lakh quintals last year.

The price is now around ₹70 per kilogram.

Traders say it could go higher if more onions do not arrive.

Other crops have also been arriving in smaller amounts.

The market received no bajra so far this year, although it received more than 1,700 quintals during the same period last year.

Overall arrivals of agricultural commodities have also dropped sharply.
