Tamil Nadu Expands Breakfast Scheme, Faces Implementation Test

Tamil Nadu Expands Breakfast Scheme, Faces Implementation Test

Tamil Nadu has expanded a breakfast programme for middle-school students.

It covers children in Classes VI to VIII.

About 15.30 lakh more students are expected to receive breakfast.

The programme will operate in 15,454 government and government-aided schools.

The food may include upma, kichadi, pongal and millet dishes.

The government has set aside Rs 217.63 crore for it this year.

Self-help group members will prepare and serve the meals in schools.

The article says the plan is useful, but officials must make sure every child receives enough safe and nutritious food.

It also says school leaders and government officers must prevent political interference and investigate complaints.
