India to Allocate ₹9,800 Crore for Maritime Development Fund
The Indian government is planning to give ₹9,800 crore to a big fund called the Maritime Development Fund (MDF).
This fund, which is ₹25,000 crore in total, will help make ships and ports in India better and cheaper.
The goal is to bring in a lot of money, about ₹1.5 trillion, by 2030.
This will help India become one of the top five countries in shipbuilding and shipping by 2047.
The fund will also help Indian shipping companies get money to buy ships and improve their fleets.
It will support building ships in India, which will save money that is currently spent on leasing ships from other countries.
The fund is managed by a special company called Sagarmala Finance Corporation Ltd (SMFCL).
The Indian government plans to allocate ₹9,800 crore to the Maritime Development Fund (MDF) in the upcoming budget.
The MDF aims to mobilize ₹1.5 trillion in investment by 2030 to boost the shipping sector.
The fund will help India become one of the top five shipbuilding and ship-owning nations by 2047.
The MDF will offer financing instruments like concessional debt, equity participation, and guarantees.
The fund will also provide a 3% interest subvention to projects that build shipyards and boost domestic shipbuilding.
