CBI Arrests Accused in 16-Year-Old Subsidy Fraud Case
Imagine a big government program to help people grow more fruits and vegetables.
Someone, named Tonia Langkam, along with others, created fake applications using names of people who didn't actually apply.
They did this to trick the government into giving them money, called subsidies, that they weren't supposed to get.
The police, called the CBI, found out about this big scam in 2007.
They filed charges against Tonia Langkam and others in 2009.
Tonia Langkam ran away and hid for 16 years!
But recently, the police finally caught him in a different state.
Now, he's in jail and will have to face the court for trying to steal government money.
The CBI arrested Tonia Langkam, an accused in a 16-year-old subsidy fraud case.
The fraud involved fraudulent applications submitted to the National Horticulture Board (NHB) in Guwahati.
Investigations revealed fabricated applications were created to illegally obtain government subsidies.
Langkam had been absconding since the charge sheet was filed in 2009.
The accused was apprehended in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, and has been remanded to judicial custody.
