Gujarat University Reverses Chemistry Prof's English HoD Appointment
A university in Gujarat, India, made a decision that caused a lot of trouble.
They appointed a chemistry professor, Kokilaben Parmar, to be in charge of the English department.
This didn't sit well with another English professor, Hetal Patel, who took the university to court.
The court first stopped the university's decision, but then the university appealed and the higher court allowed the appointment.
However, after more legal back and forth, the university decided to change its mind.
Now, they agree that the person in charge of the English department should be from the English subject itself.
The court agreed and said the university is free to appoint someone from the same branch and subject as the new head.
Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University appointed a chemistry professor, Kokilaben Parmar, as the in-charge head of the English department.
The appointment was challenged by English professor Hetal Patel in the Education Tribunal.
The tribunal initially stayed the university's decision, but the high court later restored it.
The university reconsidered and agreed to appoint someone from the same branch and subject as the in-charge head.
The court allowed the university's decision and vacated its interim stay on the tribunal's order.
