Karnataka Orders Public Disclosure of Candidate Marks in Recruitment
Imagine you applied for a job and didn't get it.
You'd probably want to know why, right?
A man in Karnataka asked for the marks of people who did get the job to understand how they were chosen.
The government tried to keep the marks private, but the Karnataka Information Commission, which makes sure the government is open, said that everyone should be able to see the marks.
They said it's important for making sure the hiring process is fair and open to everyone.
This decision makes it easier to see how the government picks people for jobs.
The Karnataka Information Commission (KIC) mandated government agencies to make public the marks of selected candidates during recruitment.
The directive was in response to an appeal concerning Karnataka Neeravari Nigama (KNN) Ltd.'s recent recruitment process.
KP Nanjundaswamy filed an RTI application after failing an interview to understand the selection criteria.
The KIC rejected the claim that the marks were personal information and not of public interest.
The KIC cited a Supreme Court judgment and the example of the Karnataka Public Service Commission to support its decision.
