Central Railway Sets Six-Month Scrap-Sale Record, Earning ₹323.50 Crore

Central Railway sold old and unused railway items to raise money and clear space.

From April to September 2026, it earned ₹323.50 crore from scrap sales.

The railway said this was its best first six months of a financial year and the highest total among regional railway zones.

September was its strongest month, with sales worth ₹70.42 crore.

A cleanliness drive also led to the disposal of 4,884 metric tonnes of scrap between September 17 and October 2.

The items included old equipment, sleepers and other things no longer fit for use.

The railway also disposed of locomotives, coaches and wagons.

Officials said the cleared areas can now be used more effectively.
