First tunnel breakthrough marks milestone for Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail project

Workers have connected the two ends of the first escape tunnel for the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway project.

This happened at Dhalwala in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district.

The tunnel is 10 kilometres long and runs toward Neer Gaddu.

Officials called the connection an important construction milestone.

They said the work is following safety rules and technical standards.

Around 1,000 people are working day and night on the project.

The full railway project will be 125 kilometres long.

It will include 28 tunnels, and 22 have already been completed.
