Iran War Stymies India-Taliban Relations Amid Regional Tensions

The Taliban controls Afghanistan, but many countries still do not officially recognize its government.

India has started working with the Taliban because the Taliban and Pakistan are increasingly hostile toward each other.

India provides Afghanistan with humanitarian and economic help.

Iran has been an important route for India to reach Afghanistan because Afghanistan has no coastline.

However, the war involving Iran has disrupted that route.

Afghanistan is also suffering from sanctions, less foreign aid, returning refugees and fighting near Pakistan.

The Taliban says it has brought more peace and stability than Afghanistan had for many years.

Critics say its rules are unfair because women and girls are blocked from education, work and many kinds of freedom.
