Rajasthan Minister Orders, Then Withdraws, Celebration of Babri Masjid Demolition
A minister in Rajasthan, India, told schools to celebrate December 6 as a special day to remember the building of a temple.
But many people were upset because December 6 is also the anniversary of when a mosque was destroyed.
The minister then changed his mind and said schools shouldn't celebrate it because they have exams.
The prime minister had earlier asked everyone to be peaceful and not celebrate the temple's building as a victory.
The Supreme Court had also said that destroying the mosque was a bad and illegal thing to do.
Rajasthan Minister Madan Dilawar ordered schools to celebrate December 6 as 'Shaurya Diwas' to promote patriotism and nationalism.
The order was withdrawn the next day due to ongoing school examinations.
The Supreme Court's 2019 verdict condemned the demolition of the Babri Masjid as a criminal act.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had advised against triumphalism and promoted peace and harmony.
The planned activities included events celebrating the Ram Temple and its history.
