IAF Seeks Industry Partnership for Cargo Drones to Lakshadweep
The Indian Air Force wants to work with companies to build special flying robots, called cargo drones.
These drones will carry things like food and equipment to islands in a place called Lakshadweep.
It's hard to get supplies to these islands, especially when the weather is bad.
The Air Force also wants to use these drones to help with security.
They want the drones to be able to fly far, carry heavy loads, and stay in the air for a long time.
They hope to have a working model in about three years, but it will be tricky because of the long distances and bad internet.
These drones could also be used to deliver medicine or help during emergencies.
The Indian Air Force is seeking industry collaboration to develop cargo drones for Lakshadweep connectivity.
The drones are envisioned to carry up to 500 kg cargo with a 500 km range and 5-hour endurance.
The initiative aims to address logistical challenges and enhance security infrastructure in Lakshadweep.
Key challenges include long distances, poor connectivity, weather, and high salinity.
The IAF plans to develop a prototype within three years and is also expanding airstrip facilities in the region.
