CJP Accuses Modi, Shah of Protecting Election Chief Amid Protests

Three leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party spoke to reporters after being released from detention.

They had been detained after arriving in Delhi for protests.

The planned protests were about alleged problems with a review of voter lists.

The leaders accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of protecting election chief Gyanesh Kumar.

Saurav Das said the government was suppressing peaceful protests.

He urged young people to hold peaceful demonstrations in their own cities.

A court said the three leaders could leave detention if they did not breach the peace for one year.

The party and student groups also called for more protests in Delhi and Mumbai.
