Gen. Chauhan's Tenure as CDS Extended to May 2026

The Indian government has extended General Anil Chauhan's term as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) until May 30, 2026.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the extension.

General Chauhan also serves as Secretary in the Department of Military Affairs.

He was appointed CDS on September 30, 2022.

Previously, he was the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO).

General Chauhan also commented that the Air Force use during the 1962 Sino-Indian war could have considerably slowed down the Chinese offensive.

The age limit for CDS is 65 years.
