IARI to Discontinue Undergraduate Courses at Several Centers
The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) is stopping its undergraduate courses at most of its research centers.
This is because the Agriculture Minister wants the focus to be on research, not undergraduate studies.
Only the Assam and Jharkhand centers will keep a few undergraduate spots.
IARI will also start a program where students help with research projects.
They will also be working with other institutes, using their facilities to offer diploma and certificate courses.
IARI is discontinuing its undergraduate program at most ICAR research centers.
The decision follows Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's concerns about research focus.
120 undergraduate seats will be retained at IARI's Assam and Jharkhand centers.
The academic council approved the discontinuation and communicated it on July 30.
IARI will introduce 'Student Research Partners' for postgraduate and Ph.D. research.
