Supreme Court Restores Back Wages for Deceased Hotel Worker
A man named Dinesh Chandra Sharma worked at a hotel from 1978 until he was fired in 1991.
The hotel said he did something wrong, but they couldn't prove it in court.
In 2015, a court said Sharma should get his job back and full pay for the time he was unfairly fired.
Another court later said he should only get half of that pay.
But the highest court in India, the Supreme Court, said he should get the full half pay because being fired unfairly makes it hard to find another good job.
Sadly, Sharma passed away before he could see the final decision.
Dinesh Chandra Sharma was terminated from his hotel job in 1991 on alleged misconduct charges.
The Labour Court ordered his reinstatement with full back wages in 2015 after finding the termination unfair.
The Rajasthan High Court reduced the back wages to 50%, which was later set aside by the division bench.
The Supreme Court restored the 50% back wages, noting that punishment stigma hampers re-employment.
Sharma passed away before the Supreme Court's decision was announced.
