Andaman Police Recognized for Strong Cybercrime Response Performance
The Andaman and Nicobar Police received recognition for its work against cybercrime.
A national review found that the police performed well in several important areas.
These areas included helping victims, investigating cases and training officers.
The police started using an e-Zero FIR system to make reporting easier.
It also lowered the minimum cyber-fraud amount needed to register an FIR.
This means more people can seek legal and investigative help.
A new laboratory will train officers to examine digital evidence.
Police said they returned more than Rs 1.72 crore to victims during the review period.
Andaman and Nicobar Police was rated excellent across all cybercrime performance parameters from January 1 to August 20.
The assessment covered prevention, investigation, victim assistance, coordination, technology platforms and police capacity building.
The union territory introduced e-Zero FIR and reduced the minimum cyber-fraud amount for FIR registration from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000.
A Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory was established at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute.
