Ukraine Prosecutor General Resigns Amid Intensifying Anti-Corruption Crackdown

Ukraine’s prosecutor general, Ruslan Kravchenko, has resigned from his job.

His resignation came after investigators examined a case involving a worker in his office.

That worker is accused of helping a fraud call center hide its activities.

Investigators said the group moved nearly $1 million through property and other assets.

They also showed pictures of cash and a luxury car seized during the investigation.

Kravchenko was not charged with a crime and denied doing anything wrong.

He said resigning was a political decision intended to avoid a larger confrontation.

Some lawmakers say Ukraine needs a fairer way to choose prosecutors.

Fighting corruption is also important to Ukraine’s effort to join the European Union.
