Independence Day 2026: How It Differs From Republic Day

India has two big national holidays that people celebrate.

The first one is Independence Day, which happens every year on August 15.

Long ago, on that day in 1947, India became free from British rule.

The second holiday is Republic Day, which happens on January 26.

On that day in 1950, India got its own special rulebook called the Constitution.

On Independence Day, the Prime Minister raises the Indian flag at a big fort called the Red Fort and makes a speech.

The President also talks to the country on television the day before.

On Republic Day, there is a giant parade with soldiers and airshows in Delhi.

People celebrate by flying kites, watching parades, and raising flags.

Both holidays are very important and loved by people in India.
