Sri City Airport Proposal Fuels Chennai Expansion Debate

Sri City Airport Proposal Fuels Chennai Expansion Debate

Tamil Nadu had planned to build a second major airport near Parandur for Chennai.

Chief Minister Vijay said the plan would be dropped because it could disturb farms and homes.

The government says it will look for another location instead.

Chennai’s current airport may also be expanded with a possible fifth terminal.

Some politicians and commentators say changing the plan could delay development for many years.

After the announcement, people online suggested building an airport at Sri City in neighboring Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh said Sri City would not take on that project.

The discussion became a political argument between the two states.
