Tata stocks lose Rs 44,000 crore; TCS bears leadership shock

There is a big group of companies in India called the Tata Group, and it makes everything from computers to cars and jewelry.

Recently, the leader of the group said he will not stay on as chairman, so people are wondering who will lead next.

That made some investors nervous, so they sold their shares and the companies lost a huge amount of money — about Rs 44,000 crore.

Most of the lost money came from TCS, a very large company in the group that helps other businesses with computers and software.

Even though TCS lost the most, it is also the biggest company in the group, so even a small drop makes its loss look very big.

Other Tata companies, like the jewelry maker Titan and the steel maker Tata Steel, also lost money.

But not all Tata companies did badly: the trucks part of Tata Motors actually made money after a good report.

The companies are not suddenly broken — investors are just worried about who will lead them in the future.

On August 18, there will be a big meeting called the Tata Sons AGM, and everyone is hoping for a clear answer about the next leader.

If the new leader is chosen smoothly, the companies might win back the money they lost.
