BMC Withdraws OTA Hiring After Union Opposition
Imagine the BMC needed helpers in the operating rooms of Mumbai hospitals.
They wanted to hire people temporarily.
But the workers' union, like a group of friends, said, 'No, that's not fair!'
They believed the jobs should be filled by promoting people already working there.
The union complained, and the BMC boss listened.
So, the BMC decided to stop the temporary hiring and will now promote people already working there.
This makes the union and current employees happy because they believe temporary staff isn't as good as full-time employees and also are unfair to the already existing staff.
BMC withdrew an advertisement to recruit Operation Theatre Assistants (OTAs).
The withdrawal followed opposition from the Municipal Mazdoor Union (MMU).
MMU argued OTAs should be filled through promotion or internal selection.
The Municipal Commissioner directed the change after the union raised concerns.
BMC will now fill OTA positions through promotion and internal selection.
