Maharashtra Raises Liquor Tax, Impacting Prices & Comparing States
Maharashtra is making alcohol more expensive by raising taxes on certain types of liquor.

Maharashtra increased excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), country liquor, and introduced a new Maharashtra-Made Liquor (MML) category.
The excise duty on IMFL increased from three times the manufacturing cost to 4.5 times, capped at ₹260 per bulk litre.
As a result, prices will rise: a 180ml bottle of country liquor will cost at least ₹80 and IMFL ₹205.
Goa has the lowest liquor tax at 49%, and Maharashtra has a 71% tax.
Telangana leads in per capita alcohol spending in India, with ₹1,623 annually.
