Ashvini Rare Earth Aims to Boost Domestic Magnet Production
Ashvini Rare Earth is a company in India that wants to make special magnets used in electric cars, wind turbines, and other important things.
They have a new factory that can make a special metal called Nd-Pr, which is needed for these magnets.
However, they are waiting for customers to place orders before they start making the metal.
The company's boss, Vikram Dhoot, says that if they can't find big partners to help, they might start making the magnets themselves in about a year and a half.
They are also trying to find investors to help them grow.
The factory was built with help from other Indian organizations and got some money from the government.
Making these magnets is expensive, and the company is trying to find ways to make it work without relying on Chinese equipment.
Ashvini Rare Earth commissioned a 15-tonne-per-annum Nd-Pr metal facility in October, aiming to catalyse domestic magnet manufacturing.
The plant could meet nearly a quarter of India's Nd-Pr metal requirement, but commercial production has not yet started due to lack of confirmed buyers.
The company is exploring partnerships to set up a larger Nd-Pr metal plant or establish an integrated magnet manufacturing line.
Key constraints include access to magnet manufacturing equipment, which is mostly controlled by Chinese suppliers, and the capital-intensive nature of magnet manufacturing.
Ashvini is seeking strategic investors or joint-venture partners to help scale operations and add strategic value.
