Mexico unveils security plan to resume US avocado exports

Mexico unveils security plan to resume US avocado exports

Mexico grows a lot of the avocados eaten in the United States.

Most of them come from a state called Michoacan.

The United States stopped checking avocados from there because it worried about safety.

That meant avocado shipments to the US were paused.

Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, wants the avocado trade to start again.

She made a plan to send more National Guard soldiers to Michoacan to keep the area secure.

Mexico is also talking with the United States to solve the problem.

Food safety inspectors may soon return, with Mexican supervisors watching over them.

Mexico is also asking the US to remove taxes on its products during a big trade agreement review.

Everyone hopes avocado exports can resume very soon.
