Villages Protest ST Quota Errors
In two villages, Vanjarapalli in Warangal and Perooru in Nalgonda, there's a problem with local elections.
The villages have no people from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community, but the government still reserved some important seats for ST candidates.
Because of this, no one applied for these seats, and the villagers are upset.
In Vanjarapalli, they tried to tell the officials and even went to the High Court.
The villagers say this mistake happened because the officials are using old data from before 2011.
The same thing happened in 2019 in Vanjarapalli, but the elections didn't take place then either because no one applied.
Meanwhile, a Congress minister is campaigning in another village, saying that voting for Congress-backed candidates will ensure better development for the village.
He criticized the previous government for not doing enough for rural areas.
Vanjarapalli and Perooru villages have no ST population, but authorities reserved the sarpanch post and ward member seats for ST category.
No candidates filed nominations for the reserved seats by the deadline, causing the elections to be stalled in both villages.
Villagers in Vanjarapalli raised objections with officials and approached the High Court, which referred the case to a Division Bench for further examination.
The issue stems from administrative decisions using outdated combined population data from before 2011, when the villages were merged with other areas.
Congress minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy campaigned in another village, urging voters to elect Congress-backed candidates for better village development.
