Zelenskyy Says Trump Gives Ukraine Patriot Missile License
Ukraine says the United States may let it make Patriot missile interceptors.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said US President Donald Trump told him the decision was final.
Patriot interceptors help defend against powerful incoming missiles.
Ukraine is running short of these missiles while Russia is increasing drone and missile attacks.
A drone strike in Kyiv killed a 14-year-old boy on Friday.
Another person was reported killed in a strike in Odesa.
Making Patriot missiles in Ukraine would take many months or more than a year.
Ukraine is also developing another defense system called Freya.
The reported license would therefore not solve Ukraine’s immediate shortage.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Donald Trump made a final decision to license Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptor missiles.
The statement follows earlier comments in which Trump reportedly supported, then reconsidered, granting the license.
Ukraine faces an acute shortage of Patriot interceptors as Russia increases drone and missile attacks.
Even with approval, building Ukrainian production capacity could take more than a year.
