HAL Awaits Russian Report on Su-57 Cost
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is waiting for a report from a Russian team about the cost of making the Su-57 fighter jet in India.
The report will show how much it will cost to build the advanced aircraft, including the technology, people, and facilities needed.
HAL already has some of the infrastructure ready because it makes the Su-30 fighter jets.
The Indian government is still deciding whether to buy the Su-57 or another advanced jet like the F-35 as a temporary solution until India's own advanced fighter, the AMCA, is ready in about 8-10 years.
The Russian team has said that HAL has half of what is needed to start making the Su-57.
The government is considering different options to fill the gap in fighter jets until the AMCA is ready.
HAL is awaiting a cost report from a Russian team on manufacturing the Su-57 in India.
The report will detail the expenditure needed for infrastructure, technology, and human resources.
HAL already has half the infrastructure in place due to its experience with the Su-30MKI.
The government is considering acquiring a fifth-generation fighter jet as a stopgap until the indigenous AMCA is ready in 8-10 years.
Options for the stopgap include the Russian Su-57E and the American F-35.
