Jarange Holds Hunger Strike, Seeks Maharashtra Resolution On Maratha Demands
Manoj Jarange Patil is fasting to demand benefits and reservation for the Maratha community.
He started the hunger strike on August 29 at Antarwali Sarati.
On Wednesday, he agreed to drink water and receive saline treatment.
However, he said this did not mean he had ended his fast.
He wants the government to issue an official resolution accepting all his demands.
He warned that supporters could march to Mumbai if this does not happen within two days.
The government says it has already met most of his demands and has provided many Kunbi certificates.
Jarange also criticized some government leaders over their handling of the talks.
Manoj Jarange Patil remained on hunger strike for a sixth day, demanding a government resolution accepting all his demands.
Jarange agreed to drink water and receive saline treatment after BJP MLA Prasad Lad met him on the government’s behalf.
He said the fast would continue until the government issued the resolution, while warning supporters could march to Mumbai after two days.
His demands include Maratha reservation and immediate issuance of Kunbi certificates based on gazette records.
Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan said the government had fulfilled nearly 90% of Jarange’s demands and that there was no need for a Mumbai protest.
