Coconut Farmers' Association Appeals to Change Lab Location
Some coconut farmers want a new lab to help with a bug problem.
The government planned to build the lab in one place, but the farmers think a different place would be better.
They say the new place, Veppankulam, is closer to where lots of coconuts grow.
The farmers believe this will make it easier for them to get help.
They've asked the government to change its mind and build the lab where they suggest.
The East-Coast Coconut Farmers’ Association wants the Bio-Control Laboratory moved.
The association prefers Veppankulam over the initially proposed Eachankottai.
Eachankottai is not a significant coconut-growing area, according to the association.
Veppankulam is near major coconut-growing taluks in multiple districts.
The association cites strategic relevance and existing infrastructure at Veppankulam.
