Mohali MC finalizes ward delimitation with key changes
The Mohali Municipal Corporation has finalized the boundaries of its wards, which are like different sections of the city.
Two wards, 32 and 39, have swapped numbers and changed their rules for who can be elected from them.
Ward 39 is now Ward 32 and is open to everyone, while Ward 32 is now Ward 39 and is reserved for women.
There are also small changes in other wards.
This is important because it will affect who can run in the next city elections.
Politicians are already preparing for these elections, which might happen by the end of February.
The Congress party says the ruling Aam Aadmi Party changed the boundaries to help themselves, but the mayor is confident that Congress will still do well.
The current city council's term is until April, but elections might happen sooner.
Ward 32 and 39 have swapped numbers and reservation statuses in Mohali's final delimitation.
Ward 32 (now 39) is reserved for women, while Ward 39 (now 32) is a general ward.
Minor adjustments made in other wards, with some streets shifting between wards.
Political activity expected to intensify as aspirants restart preparations for upcoming elections.
Elections speculated to be held by the end of February 2024, ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections in 2027.
