Varun Beverages Q1 Misses Estimates Amid Competition

Varun Beverages Q1 Misses Estimates Amid Competition

Varun Beverages, a major PepsiCo bottler in India, recently reported its earnings for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2027.

The company's revenue and profit grew by 20.8% and 15.1% respectively, but these numbers were lower than what analysts had predicted.

This news caused the company's stock price to drop by 7.53%.

Despite this, the company's chairman, Ravi Jaipuria, reassured investors that the business is still growing at a healthy rate of over 20% in most markets.

Varun Beverages is facing competition from Reliance Consumer Products' Campa Cola, which is expanding rapidly by offering lower prices and larger pack sizes.

However, Varun Beverages is not chasing this segment and is instead focusing on larger pack sizes and newer beverage categories like hydration drinks, juices, and value-added dairy products, which are growing much faster than their traditional offerings.

The company is also exploring new ventures but has clarified that it is not looking to acquire the beer maker Bira.
