Swatch Group Removed from Swiss Leader Index
Imagine a list of the most important companies in Switzerland, like a VIP club.
Swatch, a watch company, is being kicked out of this club because its value has gone down and fewer people have been trading its stock.
They are going to let a new company, Helvetia Baloise, which is a big insurance company formed by a merger, join the club instead.
This change will happen on December 22.
Being in this club, called the Swiss Leader Index, is important because many investment funds use it to decide where to put their money.
Swatch has been having a tough time, especially with sales in China not doing so well, which has made its shares less valuable.
This isn't the first time Swatch has been removed from an important list; it also happened a couple of years ago.
Swatch Group will be removed from the benchmark Swiss Leader Index (SLI) effective December 22.
The removal is attributed to a decline in Swatch's market capitalization and reduced trading volumes.
Swatch shares have fallen 5% in the past 12 months, impacted by decreased sales and profits, particularly in China.
Helvetia Baloise Holding will replace Swatch Group in the 30-company index following its merger.
The SLI is a key benchmark for index funds and derivatives tracking Swiss large and mid-cap stocks.
