Vijay Urges Centre to Freeze Lok Sabha Seats at 543

Tamil Nadu is a big state in India.

Its leader, the Chief Minister, wants to protect the state's voice in India's national parliament.

The parliament has two parts, and the Lok Sabha is where most of the state representatives sit.

The Chief Minister asked the national government to keep the number of Lok Sabha seats at 543.

He is worried that a planned change called delimitation could shrink Tamil Nadu's seats.

Delimitation means drawing new voting areas based on how many people live in each state.

States like Tamil Nadu kept their populations smaller, so they fear losing seats to states with bigger populations.

The Chief Minister also wants one-third of the seats reserved for women starting from the next national election in 2029.

He said giving women this share is not a favor but their democratic right.

Some rival parties, the DMK and AIADMK, did not join the planning meeting and called it a farce and a staged drama.
